Reinhard Agyekum

Young, talented artist Reinhard Agyekum demonstrates his interest in colour theory in relation to personalities and energies of people. His confident brush strokes and vibrant use of colour foreshadows a bright future as an artist.

b. 1993, Kumasi

Agyekum immigrated to England with his family, he has since lived his formative years in North London and is now studying BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins (UAL).

Having previous experience in teaching, he hopes to expand and explore his creative potential through his practice with hopes of merging the two in a career in education. Agyekum’s aim is to inspire young people (especially young people of colour) to raise awareness of the need for innovation and change through creativity.

He currently works under professional artist Adébayo Bolaji as a studio assistant and works with the team at Hampstead school of Art running holiday workshops for young people in painting, drawing, and sculpture.

Agyekum’s practice is rooted in an exploration of colour. He considers his process of producing imagery and sculpture as a playful act where colour and form are assigned attributes and personalities which extend their potential as tools for storytelling and composition. His practice draws its strengths from colour perception and theory as means to study the individual and universal schemas built around the relevance and usefulness of colour, in addition, it reflects on sociocultural connotations associated with colour.
