Akilah Chambers

b. 2001, Northampton

Akilah Chambers is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in drawing. She graduated with a First-Class Honours in Illustration at Arts University Bournemouth (2023) and completed 'The Drawing Year' postgraduate programme at the Royal Drawing School (2024).

Akilah Chambers’ artistic practice emerges from a deep engagement with augmented observation and imaginative narrative. Captivated by the enigmatic energy of human character, she strives to reflect this profound intensity throughout her work.

Drawing forms the foundation of her process—an intuitive and observational practice through which immediate emotional responses infuse long-held ideas. She values the way authentic interests and personal truths surface organically through this method. Working primarily with pencil, oil pastel, soft pastel, and printmaking techniques, her figures are shaped by an internal self-ideology.

Ultimately, her aim is to create imagery that feels genuinely alive and tangible.

Recent exhibitions include The Best of The Drawing Year at Christie's, London (2024); The Drawing Year 2024 End of Year Exhibition, Royal Drawing School, London (2024); and AUB Summer Show 2023, Arts University Bournemouth, Bournemouth (2023).
