Caijing Kuang

b. 2000, Zunyi

Caijing Kuang is a London-based illustrator and printmaker whose work explores memory, time, and emotion through monoprinting and mixed media. Originally from Guizhou, China, her practice is shaped by personal experiences, daily observations, and an ongoing sensitivity to the natural and transnatural world. Her visual language blends fragmented forms, recurring motifs, and simplified figures to express complex emotional states.

Kuang’s work often reflects themes of identity, belonging, and the tension between freedom and confinement. Her printmaking process—particularly monotype—is central to her practice, valued for its unpredictability and expressive textures that echo the nonlinear nature of memory. Plants and natural elements frequently appear as symbols of growth and transformation.

In 2024, her project on Alzheimer’s disease was shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards, highlighting her interest in fragility, narrative, and the fading traces of memory. Alongside printmaking, she works across book cover design and installation, expanding her storytelling into diverse formats.
