Grace Frogley
b. 1995, Canterbury
Grace Frogley is a portrait artist whose work captures the emotional presence and unique identity of her subjects. Her practice often explores transitional moments and the shifting nature of self, using portraiture as a means of storytelling and cultural expression. Working primarily with willow charcoal, oil stick, and pastel, Frogley balances immediacy and intimacy in her mark-making—creating portraits that feel both raw and emotionally resonant.
She has exhibited internationally, including at Tate Modern (International Exchange Programme), Rich Mix (Changing Places), and Dans le Vent, Paris (Refuge et Voyage). Inspired by artists such as Hassan Hajjaj, her recent work integrates bold patterns that honour the cultural backgrounds of her sitters.
Beyond the studio, Frogley is committed to socially engaged practice, leading art workshops with women’s refuges and refugee communities in London and Athens.
