Artist statement
Harry Hancock, a scenic painter for TV and film, brings a unique perspective to his art, rooted in the construction and deconstruction of artificial environments. With a BA in Fine Art from Bath School of Art and Design, Hancock’s paintings explore the blurred lines between authenticity and artifice in our highly mediated world. His work reflects on how carefully crafted scenes—whether on screen or in our curated lives—shape perceptions, fostering a pervasive scepticism about what we see.
Hancock's pieces examine how everyday moments and extravagant displays become equally sensationalised, creating a cycle of reinterpreted and recycled imagery. His practice invites viewers to consider the tension between reality and illusion, where past, present, and future merge into a landscape of perpetual reinterpretation.
