Tygar Miles Smith
b. 1999, London
Tygar Miles Smith is a conceptual visual artist whose practice centres on the recontextualisation of childhood and ephemera. Struggling with reading as a child, he found comfort in Ladybird books, which now serve as the foundation of an ongoing series. He follows two self imposed rules: a page a day and first thought best thought. Through drawing, redacting, painting, and collaging, Smith transforms these books into complex visual works. His process values completion over perfection, bringing new life to discarded materials through structured reinvention.
His wider practice explores contradiction and control, often using layered ephemera and rule based systems. His paintings may appear spontaneous but are carefully constructed, challenging traditional definitions of painting.
Smith studied at UAL and earned a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in 2023. He has exhibited at Saatchi Gallery, Heart Tour, Rapid Rigid, and in solo shows including Redacted, Thank You Very Much Ladybird, and Refitted in Paris. His work is held in collections including Selfridges and Central Saint Martins.
