'Station', 2024

£600.00
sold out

By Freddie Darke

Unique

Oil and primer on canvas
61.5 x 46 x 2 cm

Signed: Signed on back of canvas

"Although the painting was created during the making of the Rumours of Treasure series, it differs from said series in that the figure seems more in a state of waiting as opposed to searching. The hatted man with the suitcase pops up in many of the works in this series, usually amongst others and in the background, but here the main character. He is a motif that suggests a past world, perhaps the 1940s. A commuter in purgatory. In photos of the 40s and 50s men in trilby hats and suitcases are common place, and yet they can still be spotted here and there in the 21st century. I find these small signs of transience quite poignant and interesting for source material."
