£540.00
Unique
Stoneware clay, glaze
50cm x 20cm x 22cm
Signed: bottom
"This sculpture is called ‘El espíritu del bosque’. It is inspired by the Forest Spirit (Shishigami) from ‘Princess Mononoke’, a creature born from Hayao Miyazaki’s world and his reverence for nature and its untamable, ambiguous force. This piece holds both life and death. Its first form is luminous and god-like. But once wounded by humans, it shifts into something unrecognisable. This sculpture depicts that transformation in the colours, the eyes, and the resistance in its posture. This creature is in motion. It walks against the wind. You can see the wind blowing across its face. It is marked by tension. ‘Princess Mononoke’ offers a reflection on how industrial progress, driven by human ego, leads to war, extraction, extinction, and imbalance. This piece does not illustrate that. It responds to it."
