"This piece is called Diabluma. It reflects a being shaped by contradiction, holding within it the tension between danger and desire. Red clings to Diabluma like a second skin, raw and exposed, as if the body itself had been turned inside out. It does not seek resolution but invites the viewer to inhabit the polarity, to feel it. The many feet anchor this creature to the earth, yet they can move in every direction, just as life pulls us forward, backward, sideways, often all at once. Historically, the Diabluma, also known as Aya Huma, meaning “spirit of the mountain,” is a protective figure believed to guard the land and drive away harmful forces. Its two-faced mask represents essential dualities: night and day, sun and moon, good and bad. A symbol of balance and insight, the Diabluma plays a central role in Ecuador’s Inti Raymi, a traditional Andean festival honoring the sun."
